The Poe series continues here with the short story, "The Masque of the Red Death." We tackle many of the motifs common throughout Poe's works, but his Unity of Effect - where all of his text goes toward a single over-arching feeling or idea - is on full display in this work. Probably more than any other work, Poe's life also impacts this work as well as this story centers around a horrific, blood-borne illness known as the titular Red Death, and a similar if less quick-acting illness, tuberculosis, haunted so much of Poe's life.
